It took AL JOLSON to make MAMMY a sensational hit song. It took Chicago to make Mammy's Pancake House famous.

Mammy's was located on Chicago's Near North Rush Street...known for great food and convivial atmosphere...especially for its late night crowd 'till the wee hours of the morning.

People from all walks of life entered Mammy's doors...from the late night patrons of Chicago's famous nightspots...to the entertainers appearing at the small clubs in the area. It also was known as a meeting spot [to take care of biz] for the Street Crew...the Mob's uppper echelon of money collectors [insurance...'JUICE' loans...the proverbial 'FIX'...and of course 'PAYOFF'S' to a succession of the Chicago constabulary.

Chicago was bought and sold in places such as Mammy's...with nary a dull moment... along with a cast of 'characters' who once entered its portals.

To one side was the famous Tony's Cellar...to the other...The Pussycat. Across Rush Street was Casanova's and the Hotel Maryland. The Maryland was widely known as a place for late night trysts and frolicking.

Hate is a parasite that eats away a healthy body and feeds on avarice and destruction. Where there is love, there can be no hate.
