Sam Cutler, at Sears Point near Sonoma, the original site of the fatal Altamont concert in 1969. In the beginning the concert was not be publicized. I was at Mickey Harts ranch in Novato when The Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones decided to do a concert together. They just wanted to do a concert together and they weren't going to advertise it. It was for the locals and friends. The site was perfect for the concert. I went out to look at it, and shot some photos of the area.

Then the City Fathers felt it would bring too many hippies and they put pressure on the Sear's Point Raceway to refuse the use of the area for the concert. This was a last minute happening. I feel that had they not interfered, there would not have been any problems.
Because of the short time, they were not able to prepare. I say shame on those who are afraid of their own shadows. The blame goes to those city fathers.
